Fully-inclusive Motorhome Hire
1. What are the collection and return times?
We are flexible and will try and fit in with your plans as best we can (same day handovers permitting). However, our normal policy is for collection after 10.30am and return by 12pm midday. The actual times will be dependent on other handovers already scheduled for that particular day. If the motorhome is not out on hire the night before you will be welcome to collect it earlier, similarly if it is not going out on hire the day you return it you may bring it back later, although this will need to be confirmed nearer the time. If you want to guarantee an early morning collection or late afternoon/evening return then you would have to book the motorhome for the previous and/or following night
2. How long will a motorhome handover take? / How will I remember how everthing works?
We appreciate that it might be a little daunting if you have never hired a motorhome before, but there is no need to worry as everything is very simple. We’ll spend between 30 minutes and one hour demonstrating and explaining how everything works to make sure you feel comfortable with all the controls. Don’t worry if you think you might not be able to remember it all as your motorhome will also be equipped with a “Noddy Guide” with annotated photographs and a summary of all the main instructions.
3. Will my normal driving licence be OK to drive a Motorhome?
All drivers of our motorhomes must be over 25 years of age and under 70 and have held a license for at least 2 years.
A standard driving license allowing you to drive category ‘B’ vehicles is all that you need for all our motorhomes with a maximim weight of 3.5 tonnes. For any motorhomes which exceed this maximum weight you will require class C1 or C1E – you will automatically have this if you passed your test before 1st January 1997.
Please let us know if you have any penalty points or convictions on your license – in most cases you’ll still be able to hire a Motorhome, but it may mean a small additional premium to the insurance?. Read more guidance from the DVLA on driving Motorhomes.
4. Can I go abroad/anywhere in the Motorhome??
Your Motorhome hire charge allows you to do unlimited mileage.
If you are planning to go to the Republic of Ireland or mainland Europe (EU countries only) you will need to pay an additional insurance premium of £80 per week or part week.
Travel to non EU countries (such as Ukraine) is not permitted. http://europa.eu/about-eu/countries/index_en.htm to find out which countries are EU members.?The vehicle is only permitted to be driven on made up (Tarmac/bitumen surfaced roads). It must not be driven off road. Remember the Motorhome is much higher than a normal car, so you won’t be able to go into some height restricted areas such as some car parks.
5. How much fuel will I use? / What mpg can I expect??
All of our motorhomes use diesel fuel. Manufacturers of Motorhomes and the vehicles on which they are built are not required to publish fuel consumption figures in the same way as car manufacturers.
You can expect to average around 25/30 mpg – our own experience and feedback from our customers suggests that this is about right if the vehicle is driven steadily. Our fuel-economical 2 berth motorhome can average 38 mpg. Of course the faster you drive a motorhome the worse your fuel economy will be.
6. Will the Motorhome be warm enough for use in Winter??
Most of our motorhomes are fully “winterised” which means they have been insulated for year round use. Most new motorhomes are built to European standards for winter.
They have insulation in the floor, walls and ceiling, double glazed windows, plus warm air central heating throughout the Motorhome which operates via either electric hook-up, LPG gas or a diesel heating system.
7 . Do you do long term hires? / Do you do short term hires??
You can hire a Motorhome from Harrogate Motorhomes for any length of time between our minimum hire period of 3 nights to as long as you like.
We’ll give you a 10% discount or more if you hire a Motorhome for more than 3 weeks, depending on the time of year when you hire. So if you are thinking of heading off on that tour round Europe you have been promising yourself, please contact us for an affordable quote.
8. Where can I park my car while I am away??
You are very welcome to store your car in our secure building (at your own risk) while you are away.
9. Can you deliver the Motorhome??
We are happy to collect you from our local railway stations which are Darlington and Northallerton for free.
We can also arrange to pick you up from Leeds-Bradford Airport or Newcastle Airport. there will be a charge for this. Please contact us for details or costs.
If you prefer to have your motorhome delivered to your door, then we may be able to deliver it to you. Please contact us for the charges for delivery and collection.
10. Are Airport Pick-ups and Drop-offs Available??
Subject to prior arrangement we would be happy to pick you up from Leeds-Bradford Airport or Newcastle Airport and drop you off at the airport at the end of your holiday, provided your flights arrive/depart during normal ‘sociable’ hours. There will be a charge for this service. Please contact us to discuss the options and we will endeavour to help.
11. What is included within the price??
Our straightforward pricing structure means that almost everything you could possibly need during your holiday is included within the price, including fully comprehensive insurance for 2 drivers, a fully equipped kitchen, bike rack, 15.4” flatscreen TV/DVD with Freeview, and chairs. You can also make use of the Privilege Scheme from the Camping and Caravanning Club which means you can get members discount on site fees, when you stay at one of their campsites.
Please see ‘What’s Included’ for full details. It is with reluctance as our company has grown that we have had to introduce a nominal charge of £10 per person for bedding (sheets, duvet and pillows with covers) towards the cost of laundry and ironing services.
There is also a one off fee for each pet that will be travelling with you on your motorhome holiday.
12. Where can we stay overnight in the Motorhome??
The beauty of a Motorhome is that it is fully self-contained, so you really can enjoy the benefits almost anywhere.?
Please be considerate when parking the Motorhome and remember that parking overnight at the side of the road is not permitted in some parts of Europe. Many European towns have free overnight parking (Aires) specifically for Motorhomes, even right near the heart of major cities. If you’d like specific facilities such as a children’s play area, laundry, and the opportunity to fill the fresh water tank then take the time to choose campsites before you start your break.
Your Motorhome is equipped with a ‘Big Book’ of hundreds of Camping and Caravanning Club campsites throughout the UK to choose from. In high season (particularly during the school holidays) we would recommend booking campsites in advance to avoid disappointment.
See our page of useful links for campsites, places to visit, freedom camping and more.
13. What if we have a problem while we are away??
Your Motorhome is modern, well-maintained and fully covered warranty so it is unlikely that you will have a problem while you are away.
In the unlikely event of a mechanical problem with either the base unit chassis or the internal equipment, then the vehicle has European-wide breakdown cover and all equipment is also covered by the warranty. For your peace of mind there is a 24 hour telephone helpline. Please contact us for advice. It may be that you may have to visit a Motorhome dealership for repairs to be carried out and you will be re-imbursed for any pre-authorised expenses incurred.
Expenses incurred due to your own fault (such as locking the keys in the vehicle, using the wrong fuel, or running the battery flat will not be reimbursed)
14. What are the dimensions of the motorhome?
?The dimensions of all of our motorhomes can be found on our ‘Motorhomes’ page.
Please contact us if you need any further technical specifications.
15. How does the free membership of the Camping and Caravanning Club scheme work??
